Conservative Cape Town? Or are people less hardcore?

I thought Cape Town was supposed to be the Gay Capital of the world after San Francisco. I moved here for the vibe and have been somewhat disappointed after being here 10 years.

Things have somewhat eased up a bit in that its a lot more accepted to be LGBTQ and for the community but I feel that the gay underground was more intense in years gone by when I visited. I am wondering if it's a lot of people "coming out" but they are not actually sure or they are super nervous and that's why there is so much hesitation and time waisting and getting the run around. Back in the day you were either fully gay and immersed in the sub culture and there was no holds barred it's like a club that you joined knowing you will be rejected by the rest of society, not dipping your toes in.

Or is it just that Cape Town is too conservative like most of SA (hence you dont find so many streaming porn stars from here like you do from Latin America)? Or is it both?

For example back the day there was cruising in Green Point by the beach and in most toilets there were glory holes and the saunas were hardcore and you could hook up in Green Point for a wild time. That still exists but it feels subdued also when you go to places like Shaft of Sandy Bay now there is hardly any action just lots of nervous dudes looking around and looking scared to make move. There will be one or two hardcore guys in between and they will stand out.

Also why at a place like Shaft is everyone in towels that is lame and when you walk around naked with a hard cock stroking you literally feel awkward that made me very uncomfortable I felt like I was committing an indecent act in public. There are clubs in JHB where you are always naked like the one in Hillbrow and in CT I recall the other ones had that too. If I wanted to walk around in a towel all day I would go to the gym.
Is it me or what?
